Social Networking and Online Marketing

Social networking and online marketing are becoming increasingly popular on the internet today. You want to be careful though that social networking not be the only weapon in your online marketing arsenal. Too many people come online today believing that the only tool that they have to use for online marketing is to join one or more of the many social networks that are available.

I’ve said it time and again, and I’ll keep saying it until people start to listen. Social networking should be only a fraction of what you are doing to succeed in online marketing. We do it too. In fact, we own a couple of social networks that promote online marketing. As I said, it is an important and valuable tool for you to use. Just don’t make that your only tool.

Another mistake they make is that they use their profile as their online marketing base of operations. Yes, it’s on the web, and yes it’s your page, but the reality of it all and not that it is necessarily a bad thing, but the traffic that you are driving to your profile could likely go up in a puff of smoke at any given time. Not necessarily the fault of any one person, but it could still happen nonetheless. Whoever owns the social network is the one you are driving traffic too.

You need to establish your own website, such as www.yourdomain.com and set up an email address like you@yourdomain.com so people will take you seriously in your efforts.

You will likely make the odd sale or 2 at your social networking profile, but when you build traffic to a website that’s yours and only yours, then you are building traffic equity for the long term, to a site that belongs to you and no one else. You are into online marketing for pity’s sake. Drive traffic to you, not to someone else!

Use your social network profile to enhance your online marketing presence. Don’t however make it your only presence!
